Now that fall is upon us are you planning on getting it ready for winter?  Do you know what you need to do as the colder months approach? Going into the Pacific Northwest’s rainy winter season, you want to ensure your home stays dry, safe, and most importantly, comfortable. Many insurance claims in winter months revolve around broken or busted water pipes. To make sure your pipes don’t freeze, you can buy pipe insulation to wrap around exposed pipes. Also keep in mind where the main water shut off in your house is, in case you have an emergency. Another area to check is the fireplace, by having a chimney sweep inspection. Also make sure the cap is and that animals will not get into it. The roof of course is another area to make sure you watch out for in winter. Here are a few of our Atlas Roofing tips on how to take care of your roof during and before the winter season is here.

Keep Gutters Clean and Functional : Make sure your gutters are free from debris so that there isn’t water built up in them. A clogged gutter can weigh down and break free off the roof. Too much excess water or snow will add a lot of added load on the points of attachment to your home and roof.

Keep Roof Clean From Debris : In the Pacific Northwest we must be mindful of moss build up on our roofs. It’s important to keep it clean to prevent growth as well as excess leaves that can rot if left unattended.

Repair Leaks Immediately : If you discover a leak, call a roofing services professional immediately for assistance. To prevent the likelihood of leaks, regular inspections are good so that any loose roof tiles can be repaired before any large rainfalls or snowstorms.

Remove Excess and Heavy Snow Pile Up : While we don’t get regular snowfall, if you have shallow sloped roofs you should be mindful to remove as much snow pile up as possible. Any ice or snow can wedge into loosened tiles and expose your roof to moisture when the snow and ice melts.
Atlas Roofing experts can help inspect the condition of your roof and make sure it’s primed for Fall and Winter season. We recommend that homeowners get two inspections per year, one in the fall and one in the spring to make sure they’re ready for the harshest seasons. For any of your roofing services needs, we are available for customers in the Mukilteo, WA area and beyond. Schedule a Consultation Today.
